You can commission me to:

  • do a painting of a subject of your choosing for your home, your office, your business, or as a gift
  • do artwork for stationery including Christmas cards, and publicity material
  • to illustrate stories

For commissions involving new artwork, once I have been briefed I agree a fee with my clients, and before the final execution of the work I like to provide them with visuals of my ideas, so that I can further gauge their preferences from their comments.  I am happy to work from photographs.

Part of the commission service I offer is the production of prints and cards from any of my artwork, which is not already published in print or card form.  The charge for this service reflects the one-off nature of the costs involved.

I can arrange appropriate shipment.

Unless otherwise agreed, I retain the copyright of the artwork which I originate.

To enquire about a commission please email Josephine through the Contact Page.

What my clients say

“We commissioned Josephine to paint a picture as a wedding gift for our friends. The whole process was an absolute joy! Josephine worked hard to capture the image we were looking for. The finished piece was completed ahead of schedule and was beyond our expectations. Our friends were quite emotional at receiving such a beautiful, personal piece.”

I was immediately attracted to Josephine’s work having visited her recent exhibition in Winchester.; She has an informal and colourful interpretation of architecture and urbanism with a subtle and interesting treatment of light. Josephine accepted a commission to paint Holland Green, a development of three residential buildings arranged around the new Design Museum in Kensington. The buildings were designed by Reinier de Graaf of OMA and the gardens by Adriaan Geuze of West 8. She made a brilliant interpretation of the complexities for the architecture, landscaping and the hyperbolic paraboloid roof of the former Commonwealth Institute Buildings, which is now the Design Museum.
Josephine is a joy and has been a delight to work with.

To celebrate my brother’s 70th birthday my family asked me to find a present. Knowing his love of the Spitfire, his career in the RAF flying Hercules aircraft and his life long love of sailing in the family boat I approached Jo and commissioned a painting to incorporate all these elements in a much loved setting off the Needles off the Isle of Wight. This was an extremely challenging request which was executed with flair and imagination, within budget, on time and now has pride of place in my brother’s house

Jo Chisholm has illustrated 3 children’s books for me. Each one has been well received, and complimented on its original artwork.
Jo was helpful throughout the process of creating these books, ie: informally talking through ideas, making herself available as often as required, and seeing the project right through to the end product.
I found invaluable her knowledge of the printing world and her willingness to navigate the whole process with our local printers. I recommend her to you.

A couple of years ago I published a novel called The London Wife. In February this year my biography of the actress Maud Beerbohm Tree was published by Legenda Press. However, they were unhappy with the similarities of the cover of the TLW to the later book and insisted it be changed.
I approached Josephine Chisholm with a view to producing an entirely new and different illustration. Jo read the novel first and a few weeks later we met to discuss it and ideas for the cover. Our meetings were short and to the point and yet at every meeting Jo had already come up with ideas and drawings. For example, initially I had wanted the cover to include a drawing of a WWI soldier but as Jo pointed out the war features only briefly in the novel.
By talking through her ideas and mine she came up with three final drawings for consideration. I was delighted with the final outcome. The cover is fresh and modern even though its subject matter is rooted in the last century. The whole process was very painless especially as to begin with I really didn’t know what I wanted!

Josephine created a masterpiece for my mother’s 60th that she describes as ‘her best present ever’.
Being great fans of Josephine’s work, we thought it would be even more special to have a painting custom made to mark such a significant occasion. Josephine was brilliant to work with – full of inspiration and very mindful of all our requests. She kept us regularly updated and adapted the work (when/if needed) with our input.
I couldn’t recommend Josephine enough – her paintings are full of such vibrancy and excitement, they should be celebrated and decorating walls everywhere!
